The contest will open for entries on March 1, 2026!

The National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award (NERFA) aims to recognize and bring attention to the best romance fiction each year.

You must submit a separate entry form for each book you wish to enter.
If you are not sure which category to place your book please check out our official category page for more information.

Note: Scores will not be forwarded to the authors. All PDF submissions will be deleted from our servers the following year.

To enter, please fill out the form below, attach your PDF and pay the $40 entrance fee. When you hit the “Submit and Pay” Button you should be taken directly to PayPal to process your payment. We will email you a confirmation on receipt of both within 48-72 hours.

Payment of the entry fee must be received no later than March 31, 2026. Pay the fee after filling out the entry form.

CC = 2 letter category code (CR, HR, RS, SR, YA, MF, RN)
Title= Book title with no spaces
Author = last name of author (pen name)

Submitting grants permission to forward to up to five judges (six judges if entering Best First Book).
Accepted file types: pdf, Max. file size: 10 MB.
Books MUST have a copyright date of 2024. To enter more than one manuscript you will need to use separate forms for each entry.
